About Us
Are you ready to join a veterinary team where your passion, curiosity, and compassion truly matter? At Barn Hollow Veterinary Services, we’re more than just a clinic—we’re a close-knit family dedicated to making a difference for our patients, our clients, and each other.
At BHVS, you’ll work alongside experienced, supportive veterinarians who love what they do:
- Dr. Mikael Orchard (MU ‘04) and Dr. Jonny Bell (MU ‘08) are both passionate about general mixed animal medicine and lifelong learning. They thrive on variety and are always eager to share their knowledge.
- Dr. Kim Ehlers (MU ‘89) specializes in small animal medicine and is equally committed to continuing education.
Our doctors lead by example, inspiring the entire team with their expertise, warmth, and genuine care for animals and people alike. We believe in supporting each other, celebrating wins together, and learning from every challenge.
Our team shows up every day driven by a shared love for animals and a commitment to excellence. We stay because of our mutual respect, shared goals, and the joy of working in a place where everyone has each other’s back.
At Barn Hollow, we live by these core values:
- Compassion & Empathy: We treat every patient and client like family.
- Honesty & Integrity: Trust is at the heart of our relationships.
- Teamwork: Every role is valued, and everyone’s voice matters.
- Client Education: We empower our clients to make the best choices for their animals.
- Patient-First Mindset: The well-being of our patients always comes first.
About this role
At Barn Hollow, no two days are exactly the same! With two veterinarians on the schedule, our typical day is filled with a variety of appointments, from routine vaccinations to interesting medical cases. You’ll find us performing surgeries, fitting in unexpected work-ins, and handling emergencies as they arise. For our large animal vets, there’s the added adventure of farm calls and appointments with large animal clients. Small animal DVM’s should be ready to juggle a mix of cases. We like to maintain a steady but manageable pace. Yet, even on our busiest days, we make sure everyone gets a well-deserved lunch break!
Species breakdown: Small Animal 60%, Bovine-Beef 30%, Equine 5%, Small Ruminant 3%, Swine/Poultry 1% each.
We are equipped with advanced tools, including full Idexx lab equipment, digital X-ray, Tonopen and both companion and large animal ultrasound. There are three exam rooms, a wet table, isolation and surgery/recovery rooms, as well as indoor kennels for dogs and a dedicated cat room, ensuring efficient and comfortable care for all patients.
Our clients are loyal to us because we demonstrate the same unwavering loyalty to them. We prioritize open and compassionate communication, ensuring our clients always feel heard and valued. Our genuine compassion for both pets and their owners fosters strong, lasting relationships that are at the heart of our practice.
About You
In addition to standard educational and licensing credentials, here are some of the essential skills we are seeking relevant to this opportunity:
- Patient Advocate: Proficient in diagnosing, treating, and providing preventive care, you keep our patients healthy and thriving.
- Willing and Enthusiastic Surgeon: even if you’re still developing your skills and confidence, you approach surgery as a welcome and enjoyable part of practice.
- Heartfelt Compassion: You bring genuine empathy to every interaction—making pets and their people feel safe, supported, and valued.
- Adaptability: you’re willing and prepared to handle whatever comes your way, from unexpected emergencies to the most heartwarming puppy visits!
- Team Player & Leader: Collaboration is key at Barn Hollow. You work hand-in-hand with staff and clients, inspiring trust, mutual respect, and a desire to elevate each other.
